This hands-off miracle has a myriad of different versions taught. The spectator selects a card in the fairest possible manner. They deal down from a shuffled, borrowed deck and stop where they wish. The selected card is lost by the spectator further into the middle of the pack. Without touching the deck, the magician has complete control of the selected card and knows it's exact location. If you’ve ever wanted to know anything about using rough and smooth techniques with playing cards, then the Rough and Smooth Project from BBM is a great place to start. It features Lawrence Turner who, in the UK at least, is Mr Rough and Smooth. If you’ve spent any time on the magic forums and Facebook pages around here you’ll have seen his name before.



The DVD looks at the different options available for roughing your decks – notably roughing sticks and roughing sprays. And it explains the pros and cons of both and the technique needed for using both. After explaining the basic options and principles of roughing playing cards (and various different methods of applying the roughness to achieve different results are explored) there are then explanations of a number of different gaffed decks utilising this method.
